Any Location
Hold your ceremony anywhere! It does not need to be licensed as you can separate your legal signing. How about on a beach, festival style in a field, in an enchanting woodland, an urban space, or even your own garden!
Any Time
Celebrate at a time that suits you.
Your day will be unique and personal, the words all about you and the rest of your day is planned by you including any following reception wherever you are, can be a formal venue or a party in the garden!
While many people will have heard of a wedding celebrant not everyone understands exactly what they do, and there are a surprising amount of misconceptions, which I will explain here.
Simply put a celebrant is a person who performs and officiates formal ceremonies, and whilst commonly seen at weddings, they can also conduct other services like renewals, baby naming and funeral rites.
The beauty of what celebrants can offer is the sheer versatility to help couples create tailored, unique ceremonies that reflect their personalities and love for each other.
Maybe you would like a wedding quickly or you may like to plan a long time ahead if you are looking for a popular venue and need to book early.
If you want to marry on the beach or in woodland ( sometimes permission is required) you are not so restricted to dates and times of course.
To make things legal you make arrangements prior to your wedding date with your local registry office to have the formal legal signing, all you need is two witnesses for this part and you can go in informal dress as this is just the legal bit, usually taking around ten minutes.
Then the wedding can go ahead and you can still have a “signing” for photos if you wish as this is a special parchment not a legal document but a lovely keepsake.
You can make the ceremony much more interesting by introducing “Unity Elements “into your wedding, if you wish, please see an example of just a few below.
What Is a Unity Ceremony?
A unity ceremony is a symbolic ritual woven into the wedding ceremony. Among the most common unity ceremonies are handfasting, circling, and the lighting of a unity candle.
Unity ceremonies are meaningful rituals performed during your wedding to represent becoming a union. A unity ritual is certainly not required by any means, but there may be a ceremony option that’s the perfect fit for you and your partner, whether you’re looking for something religious, historical, or secular. Often, a unity ceremony allows for other family members to participate as well, furthering its meaning and representation of two families joining together. It may also be the perfect way to celebrate you and your partner’s heritage with tradition.
Hand fasting
Hand fasting based on the origin of “tying the knot”. A Celtic / Pagan tradition that is becoming increasingly popular.
The couple’s hands are tied with ribbons or cloth in the shape of the infinity symbol to symbolise the bringing together of the two hearts in a union of strength and unity forever.
The ribbon can be pre-plaited or made with individual ribbons in the colours you wish.
Wine Box / Love Letter
The couple write love letters to each other before the wedding which they seal in an envelope. They choose their favourite bottle of wine or drink of choice and place these and any other memorabilia in the wine box.
During the wedding ceremony they seal the box and vow not to open it until an anniversary of their choice, reminding them of why they fell in love and chose to be together.
Lighting a Unity Candle
This is definitely one of the most common unity ceremonies performed. The candle-lighting ceremony usually involves the couple lighting one large candle from two smaller family candles. Traditionally, the smaller candles are lit by each of their mothers, representing the merging of two families.
These are just an example of the many “unity elements” that I can include in your wedding ceremony and we can go through all the different ones at our initial consultation where we begin to plan your unique wedding.
